Maria Holman’s practice focuses on Wills, Estates, and Trusts, Intellectual Property, as well as general corporate and business law.
She advises clients about evaluating and reorganizing corporate structures and developing restructuring strategies, in particular for the purposes of succession planning. Ms. Holman has an active practice preparing wills, powers of attorney, representation agreements and trusts. She has experience in preparing family trusts, discretionary trusts and alter-ego trusts. She is familiar with all aspects of estate planning, from advising about wills, including issues such as blended families, dependents with disabilities, wealth preservation and minimization of taxes, through to administration of estates and applications for probate. She is also the author of ThatWillsBlog, a blog about the latest developments in the laws surrounding wills, trusts, taxes and estate planning.
In addition, Ms. Holman's practice focuses in the areas of intellectual property, privacy, technology and the internet. As a registered trademark agent in Canada, she advises clients with respect to intellectual property protection, licensing agreements, trademarks, copyright, domain name matters and issues relating to e-commerce.
Maria has contributed to Continuing Legal Education and has taught many courses at the community and college level, in wills and estate, real property, trademark, privacy and computer-related law.
